Heritage Lottery funded project.
bringing THE PAST TO LIFE in derby city!
THE PROJECT:
Groundwork worked with local schools to investigate the development of industry in Derby over the last 100 years and compared and contrasted the simultaneous changes to the Osmaston Park and Chaddesden Park areas. Both parks are part of former rural estates owned by the Wilmot Family of Derby, where stately homes have been demolished. Osmaston has become predominantly industrial, whilst Chaddesden is residential. Osmaston Park has benefited from regeneration work during the life of this project, making this heritage angle highly relevant.
WHAT WE AIMED TO DO (AND HOW WE ACHIEVED THIS):
- To promote the heritage of Osmaston and Chaddesden Parks in Derby (through Groundwork-led visits to the parks and classroom activities in the Key Schools);
- To investigate the development of the industry in the Osmaston Parks area and contrast it with Chaddesden Park and its surroundings (through parks visits and classroom activities and twinning links between the two Key Schools);
- To involve the wider public (through reminiscence interviews in the Key Schools, arts exhibitions and interactive drama presentations at public events and touring exhibition of the praxinoscope made as part of the project);
- To ensure the long-term sustainability of the project (through teacher training, the production of a primary education pack for the parks, a project website and a celebration CD ROM incorporating sound footage from the reminiscence interviews).
